Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) seeks a passionate, creative, motivated and experienced professional for the full-time position of Senior Project Manager in the Library’s Office of Strategic Planning (OSP). Reporting to BPL’s Chief Strategy Officer and working closely with other members of the Strategic Planning and Executive Management teams, this position will be responsible for directing projects across the library’s many departments and 59 locations, developing processes and practices for OSP, and representing the library’s interests in collaborations with outside organizations and city agencies. OSP oversees a variety of programs and initiatives of various scales, from data management, digital strategy, and the design of a techmobile to incubating innovative staff ideas and implementing the organization’s forthcoming strategic plan. OSP is responsible for ensuring the organizational positioning and capacity to be most effective in responding to community needs and serving as a leader in both the library and broader community development fields.


  • Manage large and small scale projects, many in collaboration with other departments and some with other institutions
  • Represent BPL in meetings and on committees with leaders from other departments and institutions
  • Lead elements of the implementation of the Strategic Plan
  • Create clear operational protocols and practices for the strategic planning department
  • Collaborate with key library stakeholders via online and face-to-face meetings, and site visits
  • Implement strategies that will increase the effectiveness of the Strategic Planning team, particularly as it works to support branch staff (incubator, data, networks)
  • Bring new relationships, ideas, and partners to the library
  • Advise junior staff and manage interns
  • Monitor departmental budget
  • Support the Chief Strategy Officer in providing departmental and organizational leadership


  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in relevant program or project management experience
  • Experience working in a multicultural urban environment
  • Excellent leadership and management skills
  • Excellent project and time management skills
  • Excellent writing, editing, and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated passion for libraries, community development, civic technology or related field
  • Demonstrated skills in the areas of analysis, problem solving and decision making
  • Highly organized with great attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively, diplomatically and professionally work with both internal and external stakeholders
