Overview

The NYCitizenship Outreach Assistant will connect patrons to the NYCitizenship program within the Brooklyn Public Library system and particularly in these 4 neighborhoods: Bensonhurst, Crown Heights, Kings Highway and Flatbush Brooklyn. The Outreach Assistant will work with Library staff and community partners to implement the program across 4 library locations, conduct outreach, provide high quality legal services referral and co-facilitate information sessions. The NYCitizenship Outreach Assistant will also support the distribution of Citizenship materials to New Americans Corners across the library system.

Responsibilities

  • Provide concrete referral to internal library services and resources.
  • Assist with facilitation of Citizenship information sessions and workshops.
  • Answer patron phone calls to the Brooklyn Public Library Immigration and Citizenship hotline to provide referral.
  • Make reminder phone calls to NYCitizenship clients who have upcoming appointments.
  • Assist with distribution of New Americans Corners USCIS and NYCitizenship materials to library branches.
  • Conduct outreach to connect immigrant patrons and new users with library services and promote the NYCitizenshsip program at the Library.
  • Provide guidance, information and assistance to Library staff regarding the NYCitizenship program and legal services referrals.
  • Collect NYCitizenship program statistics and provide report as needed, including one-on-one appointments, Citizenship information sessions, and financial counseling sessions.
  • Participate in all relevant trainings and meetings. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

 

  • High School degree required, BA preferred.
  • Successfully demonstrated public service experience with the ability to work well with a diverse public.
  • Knowledge of the U.S. naturalization process a plus.
  • Knowledge of library immigrant services and multilingual programming; understanding of library policies and procedures a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Strong organization and planning skills.
  • Strong facility with computer software applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a team and on independent projects.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and reliability.
  • Customer service experience preferred.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Bilingual English/Russian preferred.

This is a part-time position with a schdule of 17 hours per week at $20 per hour.
