Overview

Brooklyn Public Library is seeking one part-time Growing Providers Program Assistant to work as part of a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to develop a child care provider training program, Growing Providers, at Brooklyn Public Library. The successful candidate for this position will be preferably bilingual in Spanish or Kreyol and English, and work with Growing Providers Program Coordinator, program partners, children’s librarians, branch staff, and Business Library staff. The schedule is 14 hours per week for a two year grant period beginning in the Winter  of 2017. This is a grant-funded, non-union position.

 

                                                                                               

Responsibilities

 

  • Answer phone calls and voicemails; make calls to child care providers and or program participants
  • Register and track providers registered for program
  • Assist providers with application process, using computers, and other tasks as needed
  • If a bilingual candidate, assist with oral translation
  • Assist with preparation for workshops, classes, marketing and outreach events
  • Occasional attendance at marketing, outreach, or special events outside normal work schedule
  • Distribute flyers and brochures out in various neighborhoods, in businesses, organizations, etc.
  • Help manage Facebook and social media accounts
  • Design notices, posters, certificates, and/or flyers
  • Assist with ordering and tracking supplies and materials for the program
  • Attend necessary department and program meetings and trainings
  • Interpret and implement BPL policy
  • Required to work some evenings and weekends, as needed.
  • Flexible and open to performing variety of tasks and other duties as assigned

Qualifications

 

  • High school diploma
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or enrollment in an early education program preferred
  • Proficiency in Spanish or Kreyol preferred
  • Excellent written, verbal, and customer service skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and with professionalism in person, by phone and email
  • Experience working with children and child care providers a plus
  • Extremely detail-oriented, organized, and thorough with keen attention to deadlines and timelines
  • Ability to prioritize and stay on task; keeping short-term and long- term to do list and an up to date calendar
  • Ability to self-direct, take initiative, think ahead to get the job done well
  • General computer and tech troubleshooting skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint, Social Media), or ability/willingness to learn quickly
  • Experience working with children and child care providers a plus
  • Knowledge of library services desirable
  • General experience working with the public and diverse communities
  • Experience with the Aspire Registry preferred
  • Able to lift loads up to 25 pounds, willingness to travel between Bushwick, Central, Crown Heights, and New Lots libraries, other BPL locations, as well program partner locations.
  • May require the ability to transport outreach materials and a laptop & projector as needed
  • Ability to bend, reach, sit and stand as needed

This is a part-time position with a 14-hour work week at $15.00 per hour.

This positon is grant-funded through 9/30/19.
