    BPL’s Development Department seeks an energetic motivated self-starter for the role of Development Associate. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer but providing support to the team as a whole, the Development Associate conducts prospect and donor research; manages collateral projects such as the Annual Report; and maintains the overall successful operations of the Development Department.


    • Conduct individual and corporate prospect and donor research by CDO, Director of Individual Giving, Director of Corporate Relations and other members of the Development team as needed:
      • Create research profiles
      • Identify prospects
      • Enter relevant information into Raiser’s Edge
    • Oversee overall Development email calendar and track open rates, click-throughs, etc.
    • Act as Development liaison with MAC
      • Liaise on creation of gala and other development collateral
      • Confirm credit lines for newsletters, website, brochures, etc.
      • Project manage the Annual Report and other collateral
    • Support the planning and execution of fundraising events, including the annual Gala, Brooklyn Classic, Whitman Circle and other donor cultivation and stewardship events and planned giving seminars
    • Manage Grant Memo database
    • Provide departmental administrative support, including:
      • Manage Development Department budget and prepare and track PO’s
      • Schedule Marketing and Development Committee meetings, Committee on Trustee meetings and Gala Co-Chair meetings and take minutes
      • Oversee the development office including ordering supplies and equipment
      • Manage the development reception desk, including greeting visitors, answering the phone, sorting mail
      • Enter and track work order requests to Capital Planning and Facilities Management
    • Assist with other daily tasks and special projects as assigned 


    • Bachelor’s degree required
    • Minimum of two years related non-profit experience, preferably in development
    • Excellent communication skills both written and oral; strong interpersonal skills and customer service orientation
    • Highly organized with great attention to detail
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of staff, partners and vendors
    • Able to work well under pressure, multi-task and prioritize work assignments to meet deadlines; must be able to work independently and be a team player
    • Must possess high ethical standards and good judgment to effectively handle sensitive and confidential information
    • Excellent computer skills; experience with Raiser’s Edge software and donor research software a plus
    • Ability to work evenings and weekends
