    Brooklyn Public Library (BPL), is one of the largest library system in the United States, with 59 neighborhood libraries located throughout the Borough of Brooklyn.  BPL offers free programs and services for all ages and stages of life, including a large selection of books in more than 30 languages, author talks, literacy programs and public computers.

     

    Bedford Learning Center is seeking (1) ESOL  contract teacher to teach a mixed level English language class for adults. The position begins September 11 and runs through November 29, 2018 (no class Thanksgiving, November 22). The Class meets two days a week in the center -- Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2:00-4:00 and includes an additional 2 hours of online instruction for the students.

     

     

     

    Responsibilities

    • Manage a classroom of 15-20 students.
    • Engage students in a rich and engaging learning environment
    • Prepare syllabus and lesson plans that uses library collection and incorporates aspects of the SED/CUNY CareerKit
    • Administer standardized assessments to all ESOL learners
    • Complete administrative duties in a timely manner
    • Provide feedback and support that encourages the learners to develop both language skills and their learning autonomy
    • Participate in library and industry professional development and training

    Qualifications

     

     

    • BA/BS required, minimum 2 years experience teaching adult ESOL, experience teaching a mixed level class. TESLA training a plus
    • Passionate teacher looking to empower immigrant communities
    • Excellent organizational and customer service skills
    • Ability to solve problems with a strong commitment to adult literacy and learning
    • Successfully demonstrated knowledge of technology-assisted learning, instructional software, and distance learning platforms preferred
    • Experience administering standardized assessments
    • Salary: 35 per hour

    Please note that this position is a contract position. Hours for this position are 4 hours/week +1 hour for administrative work.
