    The HSE Program Assistant will provide quality professional support for the Brooklyn Public Library’s Adult Learning Program High School Equivalency team. Responsibilities will include assisting HSE Literacy Office through planning, organizing, and coordinating daily functions at the TASC and NEDP sites, preparing test materials and schedules for approximately 300 non-high school graduates per year. Duties also include, processing examinee information, advise and refer applicants as needed, serve as liaison to testing examiners. The HSE Program Assistant will serve as a resource for all HSE students and potential test takers, track examinees achievement by collecting data utilizing the appropriate management systems (ASISTS/Salesforce/Google Drive). Assist with administering NYSED required standardized assessments.

    Responsibilities

    • Works collaboratively with key HSE team members to fully understand TASC and NEDP alignment to the mission and goals of the Adult Learning department
    • Triage HSE email and hotline inquiries
    • Ensures all TASC applications are complete and documented. Ensures that all testing sites are staffed with a test examiner/proctor for all test sessions and collaborating with the TASC examiners and other staff on all testing matters, changes, updates.
    • Ensures candidate eligibility, schedule test sessions, disseminate test notifications for students, and prepares and submits all necessary reports and forms. Register eligible examinees and schedule examinees in the DRC database. Follows NYSED regulations and policies and ensures compliance with regulations and test security. 
    • Maintains testing centers statistics and prepares monthly and annual reports and refer students who need advising, counseling, or other support services to appropriate departments.  
    • Serves as a resource for assessment information to students, staff, area high schools/preparation programs, and the community regarding program information.
    • Performs other duties as required.

     

    Qualifications

    • High School Diploma or equivalent required; BA/BS preferred. A minimum of one year in an HSE/adult education setting are required. Knowledge of TASC and NEDP is a plus.
    • Experience in administering, scoring, interpreting results for TABE, CASAS, and TASC Readiness. In depth knowledge of ASISTS, Salesforce, Google Drive and Microsoft Office Suite/Outlook required. Familiarity with Common Core learning standards, college placement exams, and next steps for HSE graduates.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills required. Must be detail oriented, flexible and a self-starter. Experience working with persons of diverse ethnic or language backgrounds; bilingual (Spanish) speaker preferred.

    The schedule for this position includes Saturdays and evenings as well as frequent site visits at multiple program sites as required.

    Salary: $15 per hour / 19 hours per week

    This is a grant funded positon.
