  • Overview

    Brooklyn Public Library seeks a Web Developer to provide reliable, practical and creative Web Development capabilities. This role particularly focuses on the advancement of the Drupal Content Management System by developing new modules and adding new modules; maintaining existing modules, server, website and software. Responsibilities also include the development of web applications in the LAMP architecture (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP). The Developer will also assist in the proactive mission of Information Technology to promote effective use of technology throughout organization.

     

    The successful candidate will have prior experience in web development and working within a technical team. This position is part of the Web Applications team and reports to the AVP of Information Technology.

    Responsibilities

    • Develop, test, maintain, and support web-based applications and databases according to organizational needs
    • Web Development with Drupal, PHP and MySQL
    • Troubleshoot and debug as needed
    • Recommends new web technologies
    • Performs other duties as required

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma or GED; BS Degree in Computer Science or Information Science preferred
    • Minimum of 2 years successful professional experience developing dynamic web applications
    • Minimum of 1 year Drupal Content Management System experience
    • Minimum of 1 year PHP development experience
    • Minimum of 1 year MySQL experience
    • Minimum 1 year Amazon Web Services (AWS) experience
    • Experience in Linux/Apache server environments
    • Thorough understanding of databases and SQL. Should possess the ability to manually update data records using hand-written SQL
    • Strong proficiency with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript desirable
    • Excellent verbal & written communications skills
    • Ability to work as a member of a team
    • Ability to comply with branding, styles and SDLC determined by Web Applications & other departments
    • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and other staff
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
    • Ability to visualize, gather information, articulate, analyze, solve complex problems, and make recommendations
