  • Overview

    Brooklyn Public Library's Adult Learning Centers are seeking dedicated and skilled HSE instructors to prepare participants for the workforce, TASC exam, and the NEDP.

    The HSE instructor will develop, revise, and evaluate curriculum to meet the needs of the participants. Classroom instruction incorporates self-paced, computerized instruction, small group learning exercises, videos, and provides classroom instruction in a variety of fields at several levels.  The ability to develop lessons using extensive writing and reading practice in the content areas of science and social studies using CUNY's HSE curriculum. We are seeking someone who is passionate about making a difference in their community by developing adults to their fullest potential.

     

    Responsibilities

    • Participate in curriculum planning and ability to evaluate needs of students
    • Deliver effective instructions and have an appetite for utilizing data to improve services
    • Work independently and collaboratively
    • Create engaging instructional strategies and lesson plans, integrating technology
    • Evaluate student progress using standardized assessment tools
    • Adapt teaching style and strategies to maximize student learning and retention
    • Other tasks as assigned

    Qualifications

    • Requires a Bachelors degree in Education or a related field
    • 2+ years of related teaching experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Preferred experience with presenting/facilitating TASC prep. to adults from diverse backgrounds and communities
    • Must have familiarity with the current NYS HSE exam (TASC), knowledge of Common Core State Standards and CUNY Career Kits.
    • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
    • Excellent organizational and customer service skills
    • Ability to inspire and motivate others to perform well
    • Strong Proficiency in the use of office equipment including computers, data projector, smart boards, smart TVs, printers and copiers
    • Be willing to participate in professional development workshops and/or certification programs to remain competent and relevant in the field of adult education.
    • Must be able to work varied schedule, including evenings and weekends

    This is a hybrid class (6 hours a week), both face-to-face and online learning. There will be 6 hours of classroom instruction and participants would be required to complete at least 3-9 hours of online learning.

     

    This is a part time position. The salary for this position is $40/ hour up to 6 hours/week.  Classes are held at various branches/Adult Learning Centers.  Schedules are as follows:

    Day

    Mon./Wed. 10am-1pm

    Tues./Thurs. 10am-1pm

     

    Evening

    Mon./Wed. 5pm-8pm

    Tues./Thur. 5pm-8pm

     

    Saturday

    10am-2pm

    2 hours mandatory Distance Learning
