In addition, this position will use data from the dashboards, supplemented with additional data as needed, to fulfill external reporting requirements to state and local governments and other entities as required.   This is a part-time, temporary position for approximately 8-12 weeks. The schedule would be up to 19 hours a week. The salary range for this position is $15-$20.00 an hour.

The Digital Navigation Coordinator will work with colleagues in the Department of Customer Experience, Outreach Services, The Business and Career Center, and IT to develop guidance and training for all digital navigators, while also helping the manager with external partners and locations for offsite programs.   This position is full-time and grant-funded, with the current funding level expected to last two years, though additional funding is being sought. Remote work is possible, though the Coordinator will be required to travel to library branches and other Brooklyn locations regularly for outreach and in-person programming. The salary range for this position is 55,000-60,000.

Brooklyn Public Library is seeking an Environmental Community Organizer to engage Greenpoint residents in environmental and health issues. This new, one-year grant funded part-time position is supervised by BPL’s Environmental Justice Coordinator and based at Greenpoint Library and Environmental Education Center.   The Organizer will be responsible for building relationships with Greenpoint residents, especially within the Polish-speaking communities, to share environmental and health information and resources. The primary focus of this organizing will initially be around the Meeker Avenue Plume, which the EPA added to the Superfund program’s National Priorities List in 2022. The Organizer will work closely with the Library’s existing coalition of neighborhood environmental advocacy groups and City, State and Federal agency partners, as well as build new relationships, to ensure Greenpoint residents are fully aware of all the information and resources available to them.

The Digital Literacy Instructor, through instruction and one-on-one support, helps BPL users develop the digital skills that will ensure they haveequitable access to critical online information, whether they are preparing for a job, starting a business, or managing personal finances. The candidate will be instrumental in planning the programs and services that increase the digital competency of Brooklynites who turn to the library for access to computers and internet, but who do not have the computer skills to use them. The job will focus on creating and presentinginteractive workshopsand managing complementary drop-in practice labs.The candidate will also monitor and promoteonline learning tools such as iC3, as well as proctor the examinations that lead to certification. The positionrequiresregular interface with the public and support to Business & Career Center staff in responding to the technology needs of patrons.

Civic Commons Associates are responsible for staffing the welcome desk at the Civic Commons and assisting with the needs of its visitors and program tenants. As a new public service space within the Central Library, the attendant will ensure that visitors to the Civic Commons can easily find and access services for its offices, including: the Computer Center, IDNYC, Passport Services Center, and organizations with residencies in the partner office. The attendant will assist in the setup of Civic Commons events (including tabling services and onsite workshops), ensuring that visitors have a welcoming experience.

Perform independent or teamwork doing maintenance repairs, new construction, and upgrading of finishes at Library facilities throughout BPL system. Work may include carpentry, electrical, mechanical (HVAC), plumbing, locksmithing, roofing, painting, flooring, and other miscellaneous construction tasks.   The Library Maintainer is responsible for maintaining the following but is not limited to: air conditioner equipment and controls; boiler operation and associated controls; carpentry and construction including framing and taping; electric repair/installation of outlets, lights, ballasts, motors, controls, etc; plumbing repairs and maintenance including installation and repair of piping, pumps, seals, valves, etc; experience maintaining and repairing restroom equipment; proficiency in the use of maintenance tools and equipment including power snakes and other assorted power and hand tools; and knowledge of roofing repairs, masonry, door hardware, painting and flooring.   Perform preventative maintenance as scheduled on boiler and burners, pumps and motors, air compressors, elevators, air handlers, etc. Diagnose and makes repairs to heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment and controls; and waste disposal systems. Keep records and prepares reports on materials used on work performed and will be responsible for ordering parts. Enforce safety requirements to protect the building and grounds from vandalism. Will be required to drive vehicles and transport tools and equipment as necessary to perform maintenance related duties.

We are seeking a full-time floater Case Manager to support the needs of WIOA HSE participants within the Literacy Zone Welcome Center at the Eastern Parkway Library. The LZ case manager will help ensure that program participants are knowledgeable of free programs/ resources that will help alleviate any barriers to completing their educational goals. They will work collaboratively with theLZ Coordinator, WIOA HSE admin team and instructors to ensure participants’ needs are being met. This role will work closely and under the guidance of the Literacy Zone coordinator onsite.

Under the direction of the Manager of Volunteer Resources, this part-time position is responsible for the supervision of the volunteer programs, After-School Homework Help and Reading Coach.

Brooklyn Public Library's Adult Learning Program is seeking part-time ESOL Instructors who are skilled and committed to providing high-quality ESOL instruction to Beginner level English Language Learners from varying demographic backgrounds.   Strong candidates will have excellent interpersonal skills, a passion for seeing others succeed, and a determination to facilitate learning through proven methods of instructional delivery.  Successful candidates will also have a healthy appreciation for the diversity of adult ESOL students, as well as be able to quickly establish strong rapport and trust.  Lastly, favorable candidates will demonstrate confidence with humlity, the ability to lead as well as follow, an eagerness to learn through both success and failure, and the capacity to work alone or within a team.     Beginner level ESOL classes will have students who range from NRS levels 1-3.  This will require the part-time ESOL Instructor be able to differentiate instruction so that all students succeed.  Student retention will be one of the main indicators of teacher performance, as well as pre- and post-assessments on the BEST Plus Test.   Beginner ESOL classes meet for six hours a week, with one paid hour prep time.

In 2020, Brooklyn Historical Society (BHS) merged with Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) to create the Center for Brooklyn History (CBH). The Center for Brooklyn History’s education department connects students, educators, and archivists in New York City and beyond to our unique archives, collections, events, and experiences to bring the history of Brooklyn to life. The Manager of Education supports a small team of educators who bring CBH’s archive to life through programs for 4th-12th grade students and their teachers. Our four primary programs are:   - Brooklyn Connections, our signature residency partnership program for Brooklyn-based teachers - New York City History Day, the regional contest for National History Day - CBH’s Teen Scholars Internship - Professional Development workshops for educators   The Manager of Education is responsible for devising and tracking departmental budgets in partnership with BPL’s finance department, as well as working closely with BPL’s development team to ensure consistent funding. They are also responsible for strategic planning in collaboration with the CBH Director.

The Children's Librarian, under the overall supervision of the Branch Manager, works as part of the branch team and performs basic library work concentrating on service to children and their parents and caregivers.     This position requires professional knowledge and judgment, including, but not limited to, reference and reader’s advisory services, collection development, and individual/group programming. The schedule is 35 hours per week and reports directly to the Assistant Branch Manager. 

The Coordinator of Hospital Storytelling is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Hospital Storytelling program which sends readers into pediatric clinics and hospital settings to read to the patients and distribute free books. The Coordinator conducts outreach to hospitals and pediatric facilities in Brooklyn and develops new sites. The Coordinator acts as a liaison to sites at hospitals, clinics and group homes and conducts hospital storytelling sessions. Coordinator recruits volunteer Reading Troubadours and contracted Hospital Storytellers for various sites. This position reports to the Supervising Librarian of Inclusive Services.

The instructor will help improve students’ analytical skills based on the TABE assessment and prepare them to successfully use those skills on the GED exam. In addition, the instructor will also work to ensure students are equipped to use math in the workforce and to improve their financial literacy. These courses are designed to be flexible to address the needs and expectations of the diverse community and participants we serve.
