Overview

Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) is partnering with NYC Health + Hospitals to undertake education and outreach to 1) promote the ways community members can connect to NYC Testing and Vaccination Programs; 2) answer questions and demystify testing and vaccination for community members; and 3) share public health guidance.  

 

The Health Outreach Associate (“Community Ambassador”) is a temporary full time position for the period September 1st through December 30th, 2021. This position is within the Outreach Services Department and will report to the Community Health Coordinator.   The Health Outreach Associate will focus on virtual community health programming with community partners for all of Brooklyn with a particular focus on East Flatbush, Cypress Hills, East New York, Spring Creek, Flatbush and Midwood.   

 

Responsibilities

  • Conduct outreach around COVID-19 guidance and related public health topics. 
  • Participate in Days of Action outreach and Brooklyn Supports in priority neighborhoods as needed. 
  • Organize, promote and facilitate virtual forums focused on staying safe from COVID and vaccination in partnership with community organizations and the Department of Health. 
  • Create calendar listings and fliers to promote virutal forums and programming. 
  • Draft social media content around COVID testing, vaccination and public health guidance to increase number of residents getting tested and vaccinated. 
  • Collect program statistics and provide data reports weekly. 
  • Participate in relevant trainings and meetings 
  • Other duties as assigned 

Qualifications

  • BA in a related field or High School diploma and 2 years of relevant experience 
  • Successfully demonstrated customer service experience with the ability to work well with a diverse public 
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills 
  • Strong organization and planning skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a team and on independent projects 
  • Bilingual preferred in Haitian Kreyol, Yiddish, Spanish or Bengali
