The Assistant Accountant performs professional accounting work of moderate difficulty and responsibility. Prepares and maintains accounts payable records in accordance with documented procedures.  This position reports to the Assistant Controller, AP/Payroll.


  • Reviews invoices for accuracy and completeness
  • Ensures that vouchers and supporting documents are in compliance with approved Finance Department policies and procedures
  • Matches invoices to purchase orders, if necessary, and process approved invoices in Lawson system
  • Electronically upload encumbrances and invoices for books and materials processing (IOLS System) and process for payment
  • Prepares and sends electronic approval file to Citibank for release of checks, via the web
  • Assists the Assistant Controller AP/Payroll in the preparation of accounts payable checks and ACH payments.  Assists with the monthly Accounts Payable closing
  • Updates and maintains lease and real estate tax payment schedule
  • Prints all accounts payable reports and maintains accounts payable files
  • Adds value to ABC staff cards using third party system (Pharos)
  • Process stop payments and voids as requested
  • Analyzes vendor accounts and update and maintains lease schedule
  • Assists with cash receipts and special projects as assigned by the Accounts Payable Manager, Assistant Controller and Controller
  • Respond both orally and in writing to inquiries from clients, vendors and agency personnel


  • BA Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
  • Minimum 2 – 4 years accounts payable experience
  • Experience in related accounts payable software, Lawson accounting software a plus
  • Computer literate with knowledge of word processing and Excel.
  • Must display team spirit, attention to detail, ability to work well with others, be goal oriented, and be able to follow through on projects from initiation to completion.
