Brooklyn Public Library's Adult Learning Centers are seeking dedicated and skilled HSE instructors to prepare participants for the workforce and the TASC exam in-person/hybrid via Zoom and Google Classroom.

The HSE instructor will implement HSE curriculum to meet the needs of the participants based on their TABE/TASC assessment results. Virtual classroom instruction incorporates self-paced, computerized instruction, small group learning exercises, videos, and provides classroom instruction in a variety of fields at several levels.  The ability to develop lessons using extensive writing and reading practice in the content areas of science and social studies using CUNY's HSE curriculum. We are seeking someone who is passionate about making a difference in their community by developing adults to their fullest potential.



  • Participate in curriculum planning and ability to evaluate needs of students
  • Deliver effective instructions and have an appetite for utilizing data to improve services
  • Work independently and collaboratively with an instructional team (case manager, program assistant, literacy advisor, and management)
  • Create engaging instructional strategies and lesson plans, integrating technology
  • Evaluate student progress using standardized assessment tools
  • Adapt teaching style and strategies to maximize student learning and retention
  • Other tasks as assigned


  • Requires a Bachelors degree in Education or a related field
  • 2+ years of related teaching experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Preferred experience with presenting/facilitating TASC prep. to adults from diverse backgrounds and communities
  • Must have familiarity with the current NYS HSE exam (TASC), knowledge of Common Core State Standards and CUNY Career Kits.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and customer service skills
  • Ability to inspire and motivate others to perform well
  • Strong Proficiency in the use of office equipment including computers, Google Suite and Zoom
  • Be willing to participate in professional development workshops and/or certification programs to remain competent and relevant in the field of adult education.
  • Must be able to work varied schedule, including evenings and weekends

This is a co-teacher model class (6 hours a week), both virtual and online learning until further notice. There will be 3 hours of virtual classroom instruction via Zoom and participants would be required to complete at least 2 hours of online learning via Google classroom.


This is a part time position. The salary for this position is $40/ hour up to 5-7 hours/week.  Classes are held via Zoom and will transition into hybrid classes at a later date at various branches/Adult Learning Centers.  Schedules are as follows:


Saturday 10am-2pm



Wednesdays 10AM-1PM
