Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) is one of the nation’s largest library systems and among New York City’s most democratic institutions. As a leader in developing modern 21st-century libraries, we provide resources to support personal advancement, foster civic literacy, and strengthen the fabric of community among the more than 2.7 million individuals who call Brooklyn home. BPL provides nearly 60,000 free programs a year with writers, thinkers, artists, and educators—from around the corner and across the world. And we give patrons millions of opportunities to enjoy one of life’s greatest satisfactions: the joy of a good book.
The Director of Individual Giving, reporting to the Chief Development Officer (CDO), provides leadership and develops strategies to maximize BPL’s financial support from individuals and is responsible for achieving or exceeding BPL’s individual fundraising goals. The Director will personally oversee the Library’s major gifts program with an emphasis on five and six-figure gifts and provide supervision for a patrons program, large-scale fundraising campaigns, planned giving and special initiatives.
The Director will work closely with the CDO, CEO and the Board of Trustees to advance the major gifts program. This position maintains strong relationships with program staff to create working partnerships that successfully engage the donor community and continue to build a culture of philanthropy at the Library.
