Brooklyn Public Library seeks an individual to run a Teen Tech Center at selected locations. The Tech Center will offer young people (ages 13 to 18) the opportunity to work on projects they find meaningful to their lives, using computers and technology. The program provides support and resources for young people to pursue their interests and build upon their talents. In the Teen Tech Center, youth can design their own music, art, newsletters, robots, science simulations, computer games, and animation. The Teen Tech Center Coordinator will work collaboratively with the Technology Resources Specialists, Young Adult Librarians, the Technology Training Supervisors and the Young Adult Internship Coordinator to host creative activities and deliver meaningful technology programs. This position reports the Technology Training Coordinator.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, supervise and manage programming at the Teen Technology Center
  • Advise and guide Teen Tech Center members to develop projects
  • Coordinate workshops, create and facilitate trainings, host chat sessions, invite guest presenters
  • Recruit, train and support part time staff and volunteer mentors ensuring they work effectively with youth
  • Maintain Teen Tech Center physical appearance, program files, registration paperwork and attendance for participants
  • Track, run and maintain statistical reports required for program evaluation
  • Provide community outreach to involve a diverse group of young people, parents, teachers, and community leaders in the program while maintaining relationships with schools and other partner organizations
  • Complete teen focus surveys and reports as needed
  • Participate in committees and working groups planning and delivery of teen focus events and forums
  • Mentor and coach youth throughout program
  • Help teens to strengthen their communication, collaboration, organizational, and event-planning skills
  • Participate in staff meetings and program planning
  • Provide basic computer maintenance, including file management, trouble-shooting, and technical support to Teen Tech Center youth and mentors.
  • Design a Teen Tech Center Playbook with Tech Coordinator Advisory Group
  • Interpret BPL policies and procedures
  • Participate in mandatory and optional training for professional development (meetings, online, etc.) and in local cross-training
  • Refer customer complaints to appropriate supervisors/departments
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred
  • Minimum 2 years work experience (including teaching experience, work with youth and/or experience coordinating an after-school program)
  • Ability to work with teens
  • Experience in a leadership role with interns, volunteers, or peers
  • Have commitment to work from a strength based and/or youth development perspective
  • Have experience working with diverse population
  • Work experience in an informal learning environment
  • Flexible, able to handle multiple competing priorities and tasks
  • Able to work effectively in multiple locations
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office; database skills, Adobe suite experience a plus
  • Experience with computers and interest in technology as a creative and empowering tool
  • Experience and interest in 3D printing, gaming, and coding, as well as basic troubleshooting
  • Required to work afternoons, evenings and weekends
  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

This is a full time, non-union position with a salary range of 52,000 - 56,000.
