The Instructor, Integrated Education & Training  (IET), Adult Education position will be responsible for supporting student success by creating an optimum learning environment, responding to student needs, managing effective instructional activities, developing curriculum courses, modeling employability skills, demonstrating professionalism, developing cooperative work relationships with other faculty and staff, supporting college administrative requirements, and maintaining competency in their instructional field. The incumbent will be responsible for quality instruction and for effective participation and interest in the hospitality industry.

The Adult Education IET Instructor’s responsibilities include providing instruction to Adult Education learners, working collaboratively with assigned case manager, teaching assistant, and training agencies, assisting with the development of new program pathways, and acting as one of the instructional leaders of the Adult Education IET programs. This person will assist with student recruitment, follow-up, and other duties as needed for the Adult Education IET programs. The focus of this position will be instructing, recruiting, advising, and curriculum design for the Integrated Education & Training (IET) program, an Integrated Education and Training (IET) program in which students are enrolled in contextualized HSE classes and specific career training courses simultaneously. This person will report to the Program Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in curriculum planning and ability to evaluate needs of students
  • Deliver effective instructions and have an appetite for utilizing data to improve services
  • Work collaboratively with the teaching assistant and case manager to ensure participant's needs are met 
  • Create engaging instructional strategies and lesson plans, integrating technology
  • Evaluate student progress using standardized assessment tools
  • Adapt teaching style and strategies to maximize student learning and retention
  • Attend a minimum of 14 hours of professional development via NYC RAEN/NYSED
  • Other tasks as assigned

Qualifications

  • Requires an associate’s degree or high school diploma with extensive experience in hospitality
  • 2+ years of related teaching experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience working in the industry (i.e., hospitality, technology, etc.)
  • Curriculum design experience (preferably Adult Education and IET)
  • Must have familiarity with hospitality curriculum and integrated education training contextualized teaching strategies
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills (Proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, and Word)
  • Excellent organizational and customer service skills
  • Ability to inspire and motivate others to perform well
  • Strong Proficiency in the use of office equipment including computers, data projector, smart boards, smart TVs, printers and copiers
  • Be willing to participate in professional development workshops and/or certification programs to remain competent and relevant in the field of adult education.
  • Must be able to work varied schedule, including evenings and weekends

This training class has two components: contextualized and training sessions. The contextualized class (6 hours a week) and participants would be required to complete at least 55 hours of training on Wednesdays during the 12-week cycle.

 

This is a part time position. The salary for this position is $40/ hour up to 6-10 hours/week.  This is a grant funded position through June 30, 2025. Position renewal based on performance.

Classes are held at various branches/Adult Learning Centers.  Schedule is as follows and subject to change based on program needs. Annual renewals based on performance and program needs.

Three-day training class:

Mondays 10am-1pm (onsite)

Thursdays 10am-2pm (onsite training class)

Wednesdays 10am-1pm (virtual via Zoom)
