Under the leadership of the Vice President of Capital Planning and Facilities Management, this position will provide guidance and leadership to Brooklyn Public Library on safety, health and environmental issues. The role will manage the Library's EHS programs, accident prevention activities, and ensure compliance with city, state, and federal safety, health and environmental regulations. Under general supervision, performs work in maintaining buildings and equipment. Perform independent or teamwork doing maintenance repairs, new construction, and upgrading of finishes at Library facilities throughout BPL system. Work may include carpentry, electrical, mechanical (HVAC), plumbing, locksmithing, roofing, painting, flooring, and other miscellaneous construction tasks.   The Library Maintainer is responsible for maintaining the following but is not limited to: air conditioner equipment and controls; boiler operation and associated controls; carpentry and construction including framing and taping; electric repair/installation of outlets, lights, ballasts, motors, controls, etc; plumbing repairs and maintenance including installation and repair of piping, pumps, seals, valves, etc; experience maintaining and repairing restroom equipment; proficiency in the use of maintenance tools and equipment including power snakes and other assorted power and hand tools; and knowledge of roofing repairs, masonry, door hardware, painting and flooring.   Perform preventative maintenance as scheduled on boiler and burners, pumps and motors, air compressors, elevators, air handlers, etc. Diagnose and makes repairs to heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment and controls; and waste disposal systems. Keep records and prepares reports on materials used on work performed and will be responsible for ordering parts. Enforce safety requirements to protect the building and grounds from vandalism. Will be required to drive vehicles and transport tools and equipment as necessary to perform maintenance related duties.

Reporting to BPL’s Energy Manager, the Energy Analyst will assist in reviewing and analyzing the agency’s energy use and benchmarking data. The Energy Analyst should be a creative thinker, with strong data analysis skills, an understanding of energy systems engineering and economic analysis, and excellent written and oral communications skills.  This is a hands-on position requiring active support of projects in the field involving: building automation systems, HVAC re-tuning and replacement, solar photovoltaics, LED lighting upgrades, demand response/load management, and stakeholder outreach.  The Analyst will help develop and deliver official energy reports and presentations, including measurement and verification studies and cost/benefit analyses.  The Energy Analyst will provide engineering-level analysis and support for competitive energy project proposals and grant applications.   Working with DCAS Energy Management (DEM), the Energy Analyst will provide analytic support in the management of utility billing information on citywide databases; will work to identify and correct any data anomalies; participate in the annual data verification exercise for the City’s benchmarking efforts; and prepare monthly reports on energy usage at BPL   The Energy Analyst will work with DEM, BPL Agency Management, and individual facilities to compile and analyze data for program development and performance measurements, including the BPL Energy Master Plan.
