Outreach Services at Brooklyn Public Library develops innovative programs and fosters partnerships to increase access to library resources. Part of the Outreach Services department, Justice Initiatives works to support incarcerated and formerly incarcerated patrons and their families and to raise public awareness of intersecting issues of racial, social, and economic justice.Justice Initiatives is seeking an Outreach Associate to support and advance core Justice Initiatives programs.
Reporting directly to theJustice Initiatives Coordinator, the Outreach Associate will be responsible forconnecting incarcerated and formerly incarcerated New Yorkers and families impacted by incarceration to library programs and services.The Outreach Associate will coordinate programs, facilitateoutreach,providereferrals, and foster community partnerships. This position will collaborate with multiple library departments and external community organizations.
The Outreach Associate will coordinate all day-to-day operationsof the Telestory program. The Telestory program offers free video calls in public libraries for familieswho have a loved one incarcerated in a New York State Prison. Video calls take place in a comfortable room in the library with connections to familysupportsand library resources.
Reporting directly to the Immigrant Services Coordinator, the Outreach Associate will be responsible for coordinating language access projects and cultural heritage programming in the Library’s Outreach Department. The Associate works with cultural groups and artists to host multilingual and multicultural programs in neighborhood libraries. The Associate will also work closely with public service staff, as well as Marketing and Communications and Information Technology departments, to manage translation projects and interpretation for library services as needed. The Associate will provide training and support on the development and delivery of programs and service responsive to the diverse needs of the multi-lingual and multi-cultural communities of Brooklyn.

Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) is seeking a Part-Time Outreach Associate supervised by the Community Outreach Supervisor to serve transient and vulnerable populations. The Outreach Associate will work directly with library patrons who may be experiencing homelessness, housing instability, food insecurity, mental illness, barriers to health care and other acute needs. The Associate will assist in facilitating BPL’s programs and community outreach events.
